Hi, my name is Hervé Maas, and I’m the founder, writer, and avid modder behind HandheldGaming.online. Welcome!
Ever since I spent countless hours on my Game Boy as a kid, I’ve been fascinated by games. That fascination grew into a passion for PC hardware, leading me to build my own computers and get into case modding as a teenager.
Like for many others, adult life slowly consumed my gaming time. That is, until the Steam Deck arrived. This device was a revelation for me: not only did it bring back the joy of “quickly jumping into a game,” but it also completely rekindled my old passion for hardware and modification.
My Philosophy: Ownership is King
I am a firm believer in the right to ownership and openness. In a tech world full of closed ‘walled gardens’ (looking at you, Nintendo Switch), handheld PCs like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally are a breath of fresh air. They aren’t devices you simply consume; they are platforms that invite you to explore, open, repair, and improve them.
This philosophy is the core of HandheldGaming.online. A device that you have upgraded yourself with a better battery, new joysticks, or even a completely new shell becomes more than just a gadget. It becomes yours. And something that is truly yours is more sustainable, more valuable, and infinitely more fun.
What You Can Expect on HandheldGaming.online

Step-by-step guides: From replacing a joystick to installing a new operating system, I’ll show you how you can do it yourself.

Best regards,
Hervé Maas
